UFC NEWS: Matt Riddle injured in training, out of UFC on Versus 3 bout with Matt Brown
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief
Matt Brown is again without an opponent for the March 3 UFC on Versus 3 event, as Ariel Helwani at Versus.com reports that Matt Riddle has been forced out of their bout due to an injury suffered in training. Riddle had been called upon as a late replacement for Mark Scanlon who had been pulled from the fight due to injury himself last week. Riddle, who was hoping to rebound from a loss at UFC 124 to Sean Pierson, injured his right hand in training, and the injury will keep him out of action for the time being. Brown is out to halt a three fight losing streak in 2010. Entering the year with a 4-1 mark in the UFC, Brown suffered three consecutive submission losses to Ricardo Almeida, Chris Lytle and Brian Foster. The most recent loss took place at UFC 123 in November, but despite the consecutive defeats the UFC is giving Brown another shot. There's no word as to a replacement for Riddle at this moment. UFC on Versus 3 takes place from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., headlined by a welterweight bout between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann. Link to Original Source Article Penick's Analysis: That was going to be a good fight for both guys, so it's too bad for both that this injury happened. That said, it's still six weeks or so until this event, so I'd expect the UFC to find another fight for Brown. Considering he's at the bottom end of their roster right now with three straight losses, there's likely a plethora of potential opponents for the UFC to choose from here, and they're bound to have someone in the welterweight division ready, willing and able to take this fight.
