UFC NEWS: Jason MacDonald vs. Ryan Jensen planned for UFC 129 preliminary card
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief
A middleweight bout between Jason MacDonald and Ryan Jensen is in the works for UFC 129 in Toronto, according to multiple published reports. After getting released by the UFC after an April 2009 loss, MacDonald put together a 3-1 record outside of the organization to get a call back at UFC 113 last May. Unfortunately, MacDonald's return ended in injury, as he suffered a gruesome leg break in the first round of his bout with John Salter. This will be the Canadian's first bout back since suffering the injury. Jensen is getting another fight in the Octagon despite a 2-3 mark in his most recent run in the organization, and only a 2-5 record overall in seven career fights in the UFC. His most recent bout saw him lose by submission to Ultimate Fighter 11 winner Court McGee at UFC 121 in October. UFC 129 takes place on April 30 from the Rogers Centre in Toronto, headlined by a Welterweight Championship bout between Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields. Penick's Analysis: This is another preliminary card fight that will see the loser also lose their spot on the UFC's roster. Both fighters have put on a lot of good fights in the UFC, including MacDonald's fight against Demian Maia that was one of my favorites of 2008, but pedestrian at best records in the UFC won't keep them on the roster. MacDonald is getting another shot because of the freak injury in the last fight, and if he can pick up the win here over a tough Jensen he'll get to keep fighting in the Octagon. Same goes for Jensen, who can get another fight if he can manage to win this one, but it's definitely a "lose and go home" fight.
