Thiago Alves Draws Unbeaten Newcomer At UFC 138

<B>By MATT MOLGAARD<BR> MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer</B><BR><BR> Thiago Alves (18-8) will experience what many consider a step down in competition when he welcomes unbeaten promotional neophyte, Papy Abedi to the octagon at UFC 138.<BR><BR> Alves, who has long been considered a top contender to champion, Georges St. Pierre?s title, has experienced a recent rough patch. In his last four outings, Alves has looked uninspired in amassing a 1-3 record. The talented Brazilian last saw action at UFC 130, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Rick Story.<BR><BR> Swedish import, Papy Abedi enters the UFC fold with an impressive 8-0 record. While he?s yet to face anyone as dangerous as Alves, Abedi brings with him a strong striking pedigree. He?s managed to finish seven of his eight opponents by way of knockout, technical knockout or submission.<BR><BR> UFC 138 is headlined by a non-title five round bout between talented middleweights Chris Leben and Mark Munoz, and takes place on November 5th at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England.
