Former light heavyweight champions Lyoto Machida and Rampage Jackson meet in the main event, while former two-division champion BJ Penn moves back up to welterweight and tries to bounce back from back-to-back losses and win his rubber match with Matt Hughes. They'll all have plenty to say.

B.J. Penn: I Know I'll Be UFC Lightweight Champion Again

Filed under:

BJ PennB.J. Penn is generally recognized as the best lightweight in MMA history, but after losing two straight fights to lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, he's now moving up to welterweight to face Matt Hughes at UFC 123. Penn apparently doesn't see it as a permanent move.

In an interview on SportsCenter Wednesday morning, Penn said that he doesn't view his two losses to Edgar this year as a sign that he's no longer competitive in the lightweight division. Instead, he thinks he's going to win his welterweight rubber match with Hughes and then move back down to be the best lightweight again.

UFC QUOTABLES: Quinton "Rampage" Jackson - "Lyoto Machida is so boring I go to sleep"

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

JacksonRampage_150_55.jpg

"I've seen him. I've watched tapes of him fight. I can't stay up. He's so boring I go to sleep, man. It's hard. No disrespect, he has a real awkward style. He does karate, but he knows Mixed Martial Arts. But he does karate to keep away, he stays like eight feet way from his opponent. He's got the record for being punched the least out of all MMA fighters, and that's because he's never there for you to punch him."

-Quinton "Rampage" Jackson talks about Lyoto Machida on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (video below - app users video available at MMATorch).

Penick's Analysis: Rampage must not have been watching Machida's fights with Thiago Silva, Rashad Evans and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Sure, Machida's had some boring fights, and Jackson was playing it up for the talk show audience, but he had better not be thinking that's how the fight will be next Saturday or he's in trouble. But, as always in his public appearances on shows like this, he remains entertaining.
