Strikeforce: Bigfoot Silva TKOs Mike Kyle in Back-and-Forth Battle

by Michael David SmithAntonio "Bigfoot" Silva survived a brutal onslaught from Mike Kyle at the start of their fight on Saturday night's Strikeforce card, coming back from nearly getting knocked out at the start of the first round to winning a technical knockout midway through the second.

Although Kyle usually fights at light heavyweight and Silva is a big heavyweight, the size difference didn't seem as significant as one might expect, and within 30 seconds of the first round Kyle had landed a huge punch on Silva, knocked him to the ground and badly hurt him. Kyle jumped on top and landed punches in bunches on the ground, although Silva looked composed and pulled Kyle into his guard. Once Silva had weathered the storm he was OK, and Kyle seemed to run out of steam as the first round wore on, but it was a first round that Kyle definitely won, maybe even by a 10-8 score.

UFC NEWS: Kenny Florian injured, out of UFC "Fight for the Troops 2" headlining bout with Evan Dunham

UFC lightweight Kenny Florian has suffered an injury in training and has been forced out of a headlining bout at UFC: Fight for the Troops 2, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.

There is no word yet as to the nature of the injury, but it has forced him to withdraw from his planned headlining fight with Evan Dunham on the card. The Fight for the Troops 2 event will take place from Fort Hood in Texas on January 22, and will air live on Spike TV.

Florian was looking to bounce back from a decision loss to Gray Maynard in front of his hometown crowd at UFC 118. Heading into that fight, Florian had put together a two fight win streak after a loss to B.J. Penn for the UFC Lightweight Championship in August of 2009.

Dunham was also looking to bounce back from a decision loss of his own. At UFC 119 in Indianapolis, Dunham dropped a close split decision to Sean Sherk that many disagreed with, giving him the first loss of his career.

It's not known whether the UFC will push this bout back or search for a replacement for Dunham.

Penick's Analysis: This is certainly unwelcome news. This was going to be a very good fight in the lightweight division for free on Spike TV. Hopefully the UFC will find another bout to put on top of this card on Spike TV, and with the influx of WEC talent it may not be too hard. They could just end up shuffling one of the other cards to get a headliner, or they could put Dunham in there with another high end lightweight. We'll see which way they decide to go, but this is a highly unfortunate blow to this card.

Lawler has highlight reel KO of Lindland at Strikeforce

ST. LOUIS -- In front of a home crowd, Robbie Lawler took out a legend, knocking out Matt Lindland in 0:57 on Saturday night.

Lawler knocked Lindland out cold with an uppercut followed by a right hook. Lawler grazed Lindland's head while on the ground, but then stopped before throwing the next punch when he saw Lindland was out.

"I didn't expect him to stand with me. I was so worried about takedowns, so I went after it," Lawler said after the fight.

Lindland walked out of the cage on his own after the fight. This is the second time that he's been knocked out frighteningly in two years, as Vitor Belfort took him out in 0:37 at Affliction early in 2009.

UFC NEWS: Mike Pierce vs. Kenny Robertson coming to UFC 126 in February

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Mike Pierce and Kenny Robertson have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 126 in Las Vegas this February, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.

Pierce has put together a 3-1 record inside the Octagon, with his sole loss coming against Jon Fitch by decision at UFC 107. He holds wins over Brock Larson, Julio Paulino and most recently Amilcar Alves at UFC 118 in August.

Robertson was supposed to make his UFC debut at UFC 122 in Germany, but an injury forced him out of a bout with Pascal Krauss. His most recent bout saw him submit former UFC and TUF fighter John Kolosci at Bellator 25.

UFC 126 airs live on pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, headlined by a Middleweight Championship bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort.

Penick's Analysis: That's a really tough draw for Robertson in his UFC debut. Pierce is absolutely no joke. His win over Brock Larson in his UFC debut was both shocking and extremely impressive. After a tough loss to the second best welterweight in the world in Fitch, he rattled off two more wins, and the submission win over Alves in August was impressive as well. Robertson is an exciting prospect coming in, and hasn't lost a fight yet, so this should make for a very good preliminary card bout.
