Managerless Following Split With Shari Spencer, GSP Wants Ari Gold to Represent Him

(Piven following the chance meeting with St. Pierre in L.A.)

MONTREAL – UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre recently terminated his manager Shari Spencer after giving her the “it’s not you, it’s me” speech. Many speculated as to whom he would choose to represent him. Names like Drew Rosenhaus, Aaron Goodman, Mark Steinberg and other super-agents were thrown about. Since GSP is one of the biggest faces in the fast-rising sport of MMA, it would be a major coup. But who would GSP choose?

“I was sitting in my living room,” recalled St. Pierre. “I was watching my television and I saw this documentary about this amazing guy. He was an agent in Hollywood. He was a little guy, but he was a big shot. He could make things happen.”

The “documentary” St. Pierre is referring to is the HBO show “Entourage” which stars Jeremy Piven as super-agent Ari Gold. Gold is a brash, often crude man whose hard work and inability to accept no for an answer made him one of the biggest agents on the fictitious show.

"Look at the guy," continued GSP. “He spends all his time with the client. We barely see him at home. He’s always working hard for the client making sure the client is satisfied. That’s the kind of dedication I want. I said to myself, 'I am going to hire that guy.'"

UFC QUOTABLES: Jon Jones looks to Randy Couture as an example in thinking of fights at heavyweight and light heavyweight

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

"Right now I'm weighing 218 (pounds). I have a great diet and I'm realizing the weight cut really isn't that bad. This fight is the first fight where I really, really stuck to my diet and I haven't been cheating. So I feel great, I feel really agile, I feel really excited to be honest with you right now. When I'm off and out of training I do get up to almost 230, and I've been a smaller heavyweight my whole life growing up and wrestling my brother who was ranked No. 1 in the nation as a heavyweight wrestler, and I've always been pushing around the bigger guys, so fighting heavyweight definitely doesn't threaten me... I kind of like how Randy [Couture] has done it all throughout his MMA career. With the right fight, I would definitely take a fight at heavyweight, but my dreams and my goals are all at the light heavyweight division, and I don't want anything to get twisted saying I want to fight Cain [Velasquez] or any of the top heavyweights. If there was a cool fight stylistically for me at heavyweight, I'd give something to the fans and fight at a bigger weight."

-Jon Jones talks to MMAWeekly.com about the weight cut ahead of his UFC 126 bout with Ryan Bader and the possibility of taking a fight in the heavyweight division in the future.

Penick's Analysis: At 23-years-old, Jones is still growing into his frame, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him eventually make a full time move to the heavyweight division. But as he says, his goals right now are all in the light heavyweight division, and he's got plenty left to accomplish there. He's one of the most exciting young fighters to watch right now, and his fight with Bader is going to be an excellent one next month. I think he'll test the heavyweight waters at some point in the next couple of years, though, but that division is so much of a crap shoot right now there's no point in speculating who might be interesting to see Jones in against in that division. But his speed, strength and long limbs will serve him well regardless of which division he's competing in.

UFC QUOTABLES: Cole Miller says Donald Cerrone bout would be a "step down" from Fight for the Troops 2 opponent Matt Wiman

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

?I'm just tired of this guy and his same old song. Every time I see this guy he just wants to talk about how he wants to fight me, and beat my ass because I beat Leonard [Garcia]. Waah, waah, waah... This guy, he's a bully. He probably sees me as being the easiest target or the easiest kill, so he can bring it on, come on... I don't think he's horrible or anything like that, I really like his style as a fighter, but I think as far as the level, that he would be a step down from Matt Wiman. I'd be happy to fight Cowboy whenever, at any weight, I don't care."

-Cole Miller talks to MMAWeekly.com about Donald Cerrone, who has called him out on numerous occasions, ahead of his fight with Matt Wiman at UFC Fight for the Troops 2.

Penick's Analysis: From a competition standpoint, Wiman's faced a much higher level of competition throughout his career, so in that respect, a bout with Cerrone might be considered a step down for Miller. However, Cerrone's also had a lot of exposure and hype on Versus with the WEC, and if they put a bout together between Miller and Cerrone it will definitely be an entertaining and welcome addition to any card. But this war of words between the two won't stop until they get in the cage.
