UFC 127 post-fight news: Bonuses, Bisping and Fitch

UFC president Dana White wasn't at the UFC 127 post-fight press conference, but the main players from the fights were.

-- The UFC awarded $75,000 bonuses to its top UFC 127 performers: Brian Ebersole and Chris Lytle won Fight of the Night, Kyle Noke won Submission of the Night for his quick choke of Chris Camozzi and Mark Hunt won Knockout of the Night for his nonchalant KO of Chris Tuchsherer. The UFC also announced that Aussie James Te Huna donated his fight purse to Queensland Flood relief.

-- After Bisping erupted after beating Jorge Rivera, White told him to keep his cool. Bisping then commented on a report that Rivera's camp believed that Bisping's illegal knee was intentional. For that and for spitting at Rivera's corner, they thought that Bisping should be suspended.

"Doesn't surprise me. One classless move after another," Bisping said. "The knee wasn't intended. I just threw it too early. He just needs to accept that he's lost and move on."

He did. He got under my nerves. He upset me. He embarrassed me."

Bisping did confirm that he is considering moving to Australia, but also said that he is a prod Englishman.

-- After fighting to a majority draw with B.J. Penn, Jon Fitch said that he was disappointed in his performance and that he wished his title shot was not a question.

Still, Fitch's performance in the third round was impressive. He outstruck Penn 134-0, landing 42 power strikes.

STRIKEFORCE NEWS: Andrei Arlovski's coach Greg Jackson doesn't think he has a glass chin, believes he's making fundamental mistakes in recent losses

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

AndreiArlovskiCRG_150_10.jpg

Andrei Arlovski has had a rough stretch over the last couple of years. After a five fight winning streak into his bout with Fedor Emelianenko in January in 2009, he's lost four fights in a row, three of which have come by knockout or TKO. But despite what has been a labeled a "glass chin" with his recent losses, Arlovski's new coach Greg Jackson doesn't buy into that talk.

"I think he?s going to come back a better fighter,? Jackson said in an interview with Sherdog.com. ?You have to remember I?m a diehard optimist. It?s really hard to discourage me or tell me it shouldn?t be done or it can?t be done. I?m a guy that I think I know what to do to fix it. I?m going to try everything I can to do that."

"He kind of hesitated standing in front of [Kharitonov] and was grabbing around the neck and doing stuff that we hadn?t planned. For me, that?s part of the learning process. It didn?t go our way because we made some fundamental mistakes that we weren?t supposed to make. Of course you don?t want to stand in front of Kharitonov no matter who you are. He?s got bombs in either of those hands of his. We were doing very, very well following the game plan and we kind of had a lapse."

For Jackson, he believes it's all about the fundamentals, and he believes Arlovski has been making a similar mistake in each of his recent losses.

"I'm really identifying the mistake. It went a little deeper than I thought it did,? Jackson said. "Identifying that mistake and changing what we do there is going to be a big, important factor. I don't think he has a weak chin. I think he's fighting in a heavyweight division where these guys would knock down a house if they hit it."

Penick's Analysis: While Jackson's take on the situation may be accurate, it doesn't change the fact that he's taken some ridiculously brutal losses over his career. The knockout he took against Kharitonov was scary, and the more beatings he takes the more likely he is to have problems later in life. I personally don't want to see him take any more punishment, the same way I didn't want to see Chuck Liddell take more punishment after his numerous knockout losses. It's sounding like he'll continue on fighting, and that is just a little disappointing.

M-1 GLOBAL NEWS: March 25 Showtime event officially announced with two Challenge title fights

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

M-1_challenge_logo_1.jpeg

M-1 Global and Showtime on Wednesday officially announced the first M-1 Challenge event set to come to the network on March 25.

The fight card, the first of four that will air on Showtime from M-1 Global in 2011, takes place from the Constant Center in Norfolk, Va.

The event is headlined by an M-1 Challenge Lightweight Championship bout between Artiom Damkovsky and Jose Figueroa, as well as a bout between Tyson Jeffries and Magomed Sultanakhmedov for the vacant M-1 Challenge Middleweight Title.

"I am extremely happy about the venture between M-1 Global and Showtime," said Vadim Finkelchtein, co-founder of M-1 Global. "There is no better TV network for M-1 than Showtime. And no better market to seriously compete in than the U.S."

"Our ability to televise quality boxing and MMA fights at the highest level has been aided tremendously by our commitment to showcasing prospects and lesser known international stars on our feeder series like ShoBox: The New Generation and Strikeforce Challengers,? said Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Showtime Sports. "M-1 Challenge events fit perfectly into that mold and will enhance our mixed martial arts offerings even further."

According to a press release from the two organization, Mauro Ranallo will call the action for the broadcast, while Pat Miletich will serve as the analyst.

Heavyweight Grand Prix Semi-Finalist Sergei Kharitonov plans to remain active before his next outing with Strikeforce

Brian Ebersole Chest Hair the Strangest Sight of UFC 127

by Michael David SmithBrian EbersoleBrian Ebersole made his UFC debut this weekend at UFC 127, and he did something we've never seen anyone do in the UFC before: He shaved his chest hair into an arrow, pointing up to his own face.

What would make a man shave his chest hair in this way? I have no idea. Ebersole is an odd bird, known for participating in some strange fights and pulling off some unusual moves during his 60-plus fights on the small-time MMA circuit, so maybe he just thought turning his chest hair into an arrow was one more way of distinguishing himself.
