Fabricio Werdum says the UFC contacted him after he defeated Fedor; believes the UFC is "the best in the world"

With the Zuffa's purchase of Strikeforce this weekend, many fighters under the Strikeforce banner have been commenting on their fate going forward. That list includes former UFC fighter Fabricio Werdum, who, in addition to commenting on the sale of Strikeforce, revealed that the UFC approached him about a return to the organization in 2010.

"Strikeforce was doing well, growing strongly, but let's face the facts, the UFC is the best of the world, a stronger brand... You have to [unite] with the best," said Werdum in an interview with Tatame.com. "Now I can say, right? (laughs) Joe Silva told me to call him as soon as I was 'free,' to call him to negotiate, but now we're at the same home again (laughs)."

That call from Silva came after Werdum defeated Fedor Emelianenko in June of 2010, and though he was still under contract with Strikeforce, he'll now be back under Zuffa employ, and a return to the UFC's Octagon could very well be in the cards.

Penick's Analysis: It's not at all surprising that the UFC made that call as soon as Werdum defeated Fedor. They would have loved to bring him back into the fold as soon as possible after he had defeated the man who was unbeatable for so long. Depending on how his fight with Alistair Overeem goes in June, I'd expect him to make his way back to the UFC along with a number of other heavyweights as soon as the UFC is able to bring them in.

Family tragedy, not losing skid, was toughest test for UFC 128's Dan Miller

NEWARK, N.J. - One look at Dan Miller's record, and you can't help but notice a recent three-fight skid that nearly cost him his UFC career.

Miller took on the elite of the middleweight division - Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia and Michael Bisping - and didn't have a single win to show for it.

But for Miller, who returns as a late replacement against Nate Marquardt at Saturday's UFC 128 event, his in-cage setbacks hardly compared to the heartbreak of his personal life.

Bobby Lashley to Fight a Middleweight With an 8-7 Record

Filed under:

Bobby Lashley, the former WWE wrestler who dabbles in mixed martial arts, will step into the cage again next week for the first time since suffering the first loss of his MMA career in a Strikeforce fight last year. And in case there's any doubt that Lashley's promoters, Titan Fighting Championship, are setting Lashley up for an easy win, here's what you need to know about Lashley's opponent: He's a middleweight with an 8-7 professional record.

Lashley's opponent was originally supposed to be a guy named James Jack, but Jack has dropped out of the fight and been replaced by a guy named John Ott. In his last fight, a unanimous decision victory over Brian Imes at Bellator 26, Ott weighed in at 184.75 pounds.

Yes, that's right: Lashley, who's 246 pounds of chiseled muscle, is going to fight a guy who's been fighting 185 pounders, and losing to them almost as often as beating them.
