Michael Bisping feels "gutted" for Chael Sonnen after CSAC's decision to uphold his suspension

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Prior to the California State Athletic Commission upholding an indefinite suspension for Chael Sonnen, the UFC was targeting him for a fight with Michael Bisping after a stint on The Ultimate Fighter.

With those plans now out of the question, Bisping took to Twitter to respond to Sonnen's suspension being upheld.

"Gutted for Chael Sonnen," Bisping wrote. "People make mistakes. He paid his dues and should be allowed to continue with his career. Real shame for the guy."

"I did wanna fight him, as it would [have] been awesome, and a [number one] contender matchup, but my own personal wants aside, I do truly feel for the guy."

Penick's Analysis: The issue with Sonnen right now is he didn't "pay his dues" as his supporters continue to claim. He got his one year suspension reduced to six months based off of lies told to the commission to trip them up and get them to reduce the suspension. He was successful in that endeavor, but then it was made increasingly more clear that his comments to the commission in December didn't mesh with other accounts, and they've taken action. It's hard to feel bad for him because of how he piled on lie after lie after lie; he brought it upon himself.

Had he been straightforward with the commission things might have gone differently, but he made excuses after not following proper procedures, and he made false claims to get the suspension reduced. That's where the issue was. It's completely different from Thiago Silva, who accepted his punishment after getting caught. He tried to get away with cheating, but didn't compound a bunch of lies upon each other after getting caught, and so the commission will be more forgiving of him when his suspension is up next January.

But for Sonnen, his story has changed on a number of occasions, and after lying to the commission in the first place he was then convicted of money laundering charges. That doesn't make them look at him in a favorable light, and when he hasn't made himself appear trustworthy and he's been shown to have lied to them previously, it's not hard to see why they wouldn't take him at his word now. For Bisping, as a fellow fighter, sure he feels for him and wanted to get the fight with him, but again Sonnen brought this on himself with a series of actions that led to today.

Jones, Evans continue war of words

Just when you thought the drama between UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and Rashad Evans couldn't get any weirder, it did. After a vague altercation at a Las Vegas nightclub, Jones shared text messages that Evans had sent him with our friends at Cage Potato.

Similarly, Evans talked about the Las Vegas incident on "Inside MMA," saying that Jones said he wanted to clear the air, and then went on to say that he wants Evans to be his first "highlight-reel knockout."

Two questions emerge from these two stories. 1) What the heck happened to Jones' phone? It looks like he's been practicing his spinning elbows on the screen. 2) Why are these two still bickering like schoolkids?

These are two grown men, calling each other names and then going to the media to complain about it. They both have important objectives in their career. Evans has a fight coming up with Phil Davis that, if he loses, will kill his shot at a bout with Jones and a chance at the title. Jones has to rehab his hand so that he can fight Evans, if he gets through Davis. They are so focused on each other that they may forget the task at hand.

Gentlemen, Cagewriter has a small bit of advice for you: Let it go. Move on. Keep your eye on the tasks at hand, and give the fans good fights in the Octagon, not meaningless wars of words outside of it.

Titan FC 18 Results: Jens Pulver and Jake Rosholt Both Lose

Filed under:

Former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver fell prey to another submission Friday, ending a two-fight win streak in the main event of Titan Fighting Championship 18 in Kansas City, Kan.

Pulver took the fight to the floor late in the first, only to have opponent Brian Davidson take his back for the rear-naked choke at four minutes and 14 seconds.

Quick results of all the Titan FC 18 fights after the jump.

In the co-headliner, UFC veteran and three-time NCAA wrestling champion Jake Rosholt suffered a tough loss when he was disqualified in the third round against John Ott due to an illegal knee to a grounded opponent. Up until that point, Rosholt was winning the fight and arguably should have already won by TKO due to the amount of damage Ott received.

The 28-year-old Rosholt was joined on the card by his younger brother Jared, who improved to 3-0 with a first-round TKO victory.

Titan FC Results
Brian Davidson def. Jens Pulver via submission (rear-naked choke) - R1, 4:04
John Ott def. Jake Rosholt via DQ (illegal knee) - R3, 4:23
Rudy Bears def. Darryl Cobb via submission (rear-naked choke) - R1, 3:30
Jared Rosholt def. Kirk Grinlinton via TKO (punches) - R1, 1:37
Bobby Cooper def. Nick Budig via unanimous decision
Joe Wilk def. Jesse Zeugin via submission (anaconda choke) - R1, 3:36
Sean Wilson def. Deryck Ripley via submission (toe hold) - R1, 2:00
